Reese Tanaka

Music with a Mission

From a young age Philly native Reese Tanaka has had an intimate relationship with music. At age 10, he began learning to play the alto sax and went on to enroll in several local Philadelphia area performing arts camps. His first solo was at the Robin Hood Dell East in Philadelphia. As his love for music grew, so did his ambition, and it wasn’t long before a new genre of music caught his attention: Hip-Hop. At the age of 16 he became a Dj and had a gift for the art form, winning various DJ battles, then under the moniker “DJ Massacre”. As his talents grew, Reese Tanaka went on to venture into producing music and graphic design. He later caught the eye of Philly native emcee Aul Purpis who was currently finishing up his solo debut album “Private Property”. Since then Reese Tanaka and Aul Purpis have been in the lab diligently perfecting their craft with the soul purpose of putting out quality hip-hop material. Currently Reese Tanaka is involved in many projects including working with top philly artist RJ Payne and has produced tracks for Aul Purpis, Phantasm (Cella Dwellas) Rock from Heltah Skeltah, Sadat X D'Wyze (OF THE B.U.M.S) and Craig G. Reese Tanaka believes that good music should evoke a certain type of emotion; Music can evoke the deepest emotions in people and help us process fear, grief, sadness, and resentment. When in doubt Reese Tanaka embraces one theory, “push play on em”.
